S hort Track Speed Skating also known as STSS is "the world's fastest self propelled sport" that has gained significant popularity in recent years. It is a form of ice skating that takes place on a smaller rink, typically an ice hockey rink, and involves skaters racing each other around a tight track. The rink is of 111.12m and includes about 6-10 athletes at the start line in a single race. The sport originated in Canada in the 19th century and was initially called "racing on ice." It was later renamed "short track speed skating" in the 1960s, and was recognized as an Winter Olympic sport in 1992. It is a high-speed sport that requires combination of speed, agility, and strategy.
